The relevance and some problems of «triple» therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C

Abstract

This paper presents the survey data in the clinic of infectious diseases of the Bogomolets National Medical University, Kiev, Ukraine of 474 HCV patients, including 371 (68%) – with genotype 1b. 68 of them received standard antiviral therapy with PEG IFN and ribavirin. Sustained virological response was obtained in only 39 of them (57,4%). A retrospective analysis of a failed «double» antiviral therapy in 29 patients according to the degree of fi brosis, hepatic steatosis, baseline viral load and gene polymorphism in IL 28, led to the conclusion that the majority of patients who have not attained SVR, initially needed a «triple» antiviral therapy with the use of protease inhibitor boceprevir. Indications and contraindications, the prospects of using this drug in the present conditions of Ukraine are discused.
