Development of a draft specification and control methods for a dietary supplement containing taurine

Abstract

Taurine is a conditionally essential sulfonic amino acid that is not part of proteins, but is involved in key physiological processes, in particular in osmoregulation, detoxification, regulation of calcium homeostasis and stabilization of cell membranes. Due to its wide range of biological effects, taurine is widely used in dietary supplements to support physical performance, nervous system functions and metabolism. At the same time, the active growth of the nutraceutical market necessitates the implementation of scientifically based requirements for the quality and safety of products containing amino acids, in particular taurine. The aim of the work was to develop a draft specification and determine modern methods of quality control of a dietary supplement containing taurine, in accordance with the requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine and international standards.
