Abstract

Esophageal cancer remains a major global health challenge, ranking among the leading causes of cancer-related mortality. Esophagectomy, a standard treatment for resectable cases, is associated with high rates of postoperative complications, significantly impacting patient outcomes. Among various risk factors, sarcopenia – a condition characterized by decreased skeletal muscle mass and strength – has emerged as a potential predictor of adverse postoperative outcomes. However, its precise influence on esophagectomy-related morbidity and mortality remains unclear, warranting further investigation.
